SINGAPORE : An undergraduate who used a Trojan Horse programme to steal the passwords and user IDs of fellow students was jailed 20 months on Wednesday.

Nguyen Van Phi Hung, a third-year computer engineering student at the National University of Singapore (NUS), is the first person here to be prosecuted for using a Trojan Horse programme.

Hung had downloaded Perfect Keylogger last year and attached it to an online game which he posted on his webpage.

He also sent the hyperlink to friends.

Whenever someone played the game, Perfect Keylogger would be installed automatically on the person's computer and record all keystrokes made by the user.

This was how Hung got the password and user ID of Wong Ming Liang's DBS online bank account.

He used Wong's funds to buy $947 worth of prepaid phone cards and paid for a $138 magazine membership and a two-year-subscription fee.

Hung used another student's account to subscribe to the magazine.

He pleaded guilty to three charges of accessing the DBS server illegally to cheat - each of which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' jail and $50,000 fine - and another charge of unlawful access to the computer server in NUS, which could have gotten him three years' jail and a $10,000 fine.

Theres a lesson here for a select few who might read this one day when this site gets popular...
Comments anyone ? Very Happy

What makes it more stupid... The jailed student is a on a goverment scholarship to study at the university.

Hacking for knowledge if fine but hacking for money and control over others is stupid and if you do that I hope you get caught. I believe in testing security and proving a point but when you hack just to screw others you are lame. But this is just my 2 cents.

pfft,
pretty stupid,
any moron can infect someone without Anti-Virus,
and its the stupid people that open them too,
but its even the more stupider people who send them,

i think i used a trojan once before i found out about VNC and thats when i needed to control my computer from my laptop at another place.
then once it got a pain in the ass i switched to VNC.
simple..

my advice,
just uninstall their server and let them run free...
or "scare" them alittle and get them to run Anti-Virus,
then uninstall the server.

I'm not knocking you for running a sub-7 type of Trojan SteX. If that?s what makes you happy cool. I can't stand people that steal from stupid users (i.e. taking credit card numbers and such). I think we all should at one time try a Trojan but to keep a host and screw with them is not my cup of tea. Now if you have the skill to write a "NEW" Trojan from scratch them I respect that. Hacking/Security has a bad name because of all the Virus writers and god I hate SPAM! So I'm cool with your options and what ever you like doing as long as your not a spammer or Virus writer. (Note this is not mean to be Flame bait!)

Just my Opinion,

i dont use Trojans to damage victims..I only spy Web Cams, download good files from victims, and using them for "LIVE PROXY" or "LIVE SOCKS"..That mean when i try to exploit some sites,i always try to do that trought my victims..
I(MyComp)>>>Victim1>>>Victim2>>>Target Site

SteX I can't say anything good or bad about that. It's a grey area with me. Since you are not hurting the victim but you are setting them up for trouble (site owner report there IP). I do understand hiding you IP/computer. Be safe have fun and be willing to answer for what you do... Did you write your own Trojan? Or did you modify someone else?s work? Like I said I don't like SPAMMERS or Virus writers. Oh and spy ware sux (Damn Pop-up ads). I saw you webcam post nice looking girl.

I dont write my own trojans..But i write plugins for them, and made many different tools/scripts to make them Undetected..(Upx/Fsg Scramble,Hex editing etc)..And,ofcourse,i always try to find the way to infect more victims..(it is possible to get 10 new victims in 1 minute)..Respect..
