I've been trying to find the plaintext for this md5 hash

16d878a26992531f949834bf4740cdf7

but I've not had much luck, it's not urgent or anything but if anyone could help I'd appreciate it.

This is not a md5 hash.
So would I still get the money.

It is a valid MD5 hash. However, I was unable to crack it with the following Rainbow Tables:
md5_mixalpha-numeric-all-space#1-6 (85.85% success rate)
md5_numeric#1-12 (97.34% success rate)
md5_loweralpha-space#1-9 (97.01% success rate)
md5_mixalpha-numeric-space#1-7 (84.13% success rate)
as well as a few others I can't remember at the time.

So I'd say it's either salted, or it has symbols in it.

salvage, if you could tell us where you got this MD5, then we should be able to tell you what kind of salt it has (if any).

Edit: phpBB2=non-salted md5.
