There are easy ways to "hack" certain versions of Phpbb but as new vulnerabilities are exposed the lovely people at Phpbb re-release a newer version on which these "hacks" no longer work. 2.0.17 is the latest version and therefore the most difficult to "Hack". As yet only 1 vulnerability (See the phbb 2.0.17 image tag vulnerability thread) has been discovered and this does not offer much scope for menace. Basically, to answer your question, there is no easy way to hack Phpbb 2.0.17 but keep coming back here and reading and learning, and one day there might be.
